About the work
In letters between October 1912 and August 1913, Sophie Taeuber writes to her sister Erika Schlegel-Taeuber about working on one (or more) crochet works and/or a child’s bonnet. These references suggest that the crocheted bonnet pictured is a work by the artist. (cf. letters to Erika Schlegel-Taeuber of 26.10.1912, 9.6.1913 and 12.8.1913, in: Hoch/Krupp/Schade 2021 I, pp. 245-303) The illustration is from the yearbook of the Staatliche Kunstgewerbeschule Hamburg of October 1913; next to this and another illustrated bonnet is the picture description: “Werkstatt: M. Brinckmann. Schülerinnen: G. Oetling, S. Taeuber.” (Kunstgewerbeschule Hamburg 1913, n. p.)
